This spoon was hand-carved from birch using only traditional methods and hand tools. Made for use, the bowl’s depth and shape were designed for comfort, while the tapered handle fits naturally and securely in your hand. The ball carved into the end of the spoon is not only for aesthetics, but functions as an anchor for a loop of cordage to be attached, allowing the spoon to be hung from a pack for transport, or around a tree branch for convenient storage in camp.
After the carving process is complete, each spoon is left to dry and then sealed with daily coatings of raw linseed and grapeseed oil, which are applied over the course of seven days. This process closes the wood’s pores, creating a durable, food-safe finish. Every spoon is crafted with care and attention to detail, intended to be a lasting companion for everyday use or wilderness journeys.
Care Instructions: When warm water isn’t enough, use a mild soap. Dry after washing. After washing or extended use, parts of the wood grain may begin to turn white. Treat with a coat of raw linseed or grapeseed oil to restore color. Do not submerge in boiling water for extended periods.
Disclaimer: As they are handmade, each is individual and varies slightly from the next. All sales are final.
